New Brunswick road trip this weekend for ‘Canes

September 20, 2018

The Holland College Hurricanes men’s and women’s soccer teams travel to New Brunswick this weekend to take on the UNBSJ Seawolves (Saturday) and STU Tommies (Sunday).

The women’s Hurricanes are currently in second place in the ACAA standings with a 3-1-0 record while UNBSJ are in fifth place with a 0-0-3 record. On Sunday, the Hurricanes will face the first place STU Tommies who have a 3-0-1 record. Last weekend UNBSJ and STU tied 2-2 against each other, proving both games this weekend will be a challenge for the women’s Hurricanes.

Head coach Kris McKinnon is ready for the weekend.

“As a team we are excited for this weekend. To be able to test ourselves against UNBSJ who are always a tough match up and then to face STU who sit atop the standings right now. The players have been focused on executing our plan and we look forward to applying it on the weekend.”

On the men’s side, the Hurricanes are currently first in the ACAA with 4-0-0 record giving them third spot in the CCAA National rankings this week.  UNBSJ has a record of 0-2-1 for a six-place standing in the ACAA while STU sits in fourth with a 1-1-2 record.

Coming off a solid set of home games last week, Hurricanes center back Bobby Gamba thinks the team is up for the challenge.

“It’s always more challenging playing on the road. But we’ve been working hard in training and feel we can carry the momentum from previous games into this weekend.”

Head coach, Jonathan Vos, looks forward to seeing what his team can do.

“We are looking to build off last weekend. We are looking forward to seeing how we match up against UNBSJ and STU. The team has been working hard to show what they can do.”

Game times on Saturday are 2 and 4pm with a 12 and 3:15pm start time on Sunday.
